Germany

Pfalz

Southwestern Germany, the second-largest wine region, stretching along the border with Alsace.

The warmest and sunniest of the major German regions - the 'German Tuscany'.

The Pfalz, Germany's sunniest and friendliest region, is a land of almond trees, vineyards and village taverns hugging the French border. It produces Germany's most generous whites and, increasingly, some of its boldest Pinot Noir.

South of the famous Mittelhaardt hills, the region turns warmer and more Mediterranean in its flavours.

For the buyer, the Pfalz offers fantastic everyday Riesling and Silvaner, plus Germany's best Pinot Noir at approachable prices.

Terroir & Soil

Diverse soils from limestone and basalt to loess and shell limestone; a long dry season.

What to Expect from the Wines

  • · The Pfalz is sunny, generous and soulful - home to both crisp Riesling and Germany's finest Pinot Noir.
  • · Its Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder) is increasingly world-class.
  • · Weissburgunder and Grauburgunder give soft, food-friendly whites.
