red grape

Nebbiolo

Cool, dry piedmontese hillside conditions; the grape needs perfect autumn ripening.

Known as: Spanna, Lombarda

Nebbiolo is the noble grape of Piedmont, Italy, and the source of the country's two most famous reds: Barolo and Barbaresco. It produces pale, powerful, perfumed wines with classically high tannins and acidity.

Its distinctive aromas of rose, tar, cherry and truffle are immediately recognizable, and its best wines age for decades.

For the buyer, Nebbiolo is one of the world's great gastronomic reds - robust enough for the richest dishes and aromatic enough for the most subtle.
