Piedmont
Northwest Italy, in the foothills of the Alps around the towns of Alba, Asti and Barolo.
Continental; cold winters, warm days and cool nights that preserve Nebbiolo's extraordinary aromatics and acidity.
Piedmont, in the shadow of the Alps, is Italy's most serious red-wine region. Its Nebbiolo, grown on gentle Langhe hills, produces Barolo ('the wine of kings') and Barbaresco, wines of haunting rose, tar and truffle aromas wrapped in formidable tannin and acidity.
Around these giants, Piedmont makes a feast of everyday drinking - juicy Barbera, fruity Dolcetto, refreshing Arneis - and the delightful Moscato d'Asti.
Piedmont is also Italy's truffle country, and its wines are designed for the rich, earthy food of the region.
Terroir & Soil
The celebrated calcareous marl of the Langhe hills; Tortonian (sandy) and Helvetian (calcareous) subsoils in Barolo and Barbaresco.
What to Expect from the Wines
